This is one of the best restaurants in Cape Town, by far. Their steaks create mouthwatering memories, keeping you going back for more!
The design is warm, intimate and inviting, perfect lighting and comfortable seating, making you feel very relaxed. I have been there on both a jumping Saturday night, and a more civilized midweek visit and the place seems equally well suited for either, which is a rare feat that most establishments don’t pull off very well. The last time I went, the music was excellently built throughout the night starting off with chilled out beats building up to some seriously funky, up lifting tunes, the kind that you can't help but want to dance to. We were served fantastic food at our party which could rival any leading restaurant. Drinks are well made and the good looking bar staff, considering how full the place was, were still friendly, smiling, attentive and fast! I didn’t wait longer than 3 minute’s max at any of my visits to the bar. And the prices, great value. They put most of Cape Town’s best bars to shame, for a place that easily equals them in terms of quality throughout. A bar that will probably be a classic place to go for years to come....
While the bar area is equipped with state-of-the-art disk jockeys, catering your every request, the Intimate candle-light in the dining area is perfect for romantic liaisons. The live band creates a fantastic atmosphere, starting out slow and relaxed, and building up to a more of a party vibe. The food is great, and the waitresses ask all the right questions to ensure that you get exactly what you ask for.
What’s great about Pirates is that nothing gets them down. Great fun was had by all in keeping the pub running during the blackouts. Ice kept the beers cold, candles lit up the place, and the generator (Rumoured to be powered by captives on a treadmill!) kept the tills and TVs’ on line! A generator was put in to protect Pirates from the vagaries of that notable gang of pirates which flies the Eskom flag! The “skipper” is determined to ensure that his customers have a place to eat and drink when Koeberg throws another wobble!
As for the sporting events on the big TV screen, there is a very varied diet. In this case and I’m sure all Rugby fans would agree; only “well done” will do! There is no alternative but to retire to the pub and be entertained over a few cold ones – again!
