Los Locos is not fine dining, but then I imagine that they wouldn't ever have claimed to be. What they are is fun, affordable dining. They've been serving Tex-Mex food for the last 19 years and seem to onto quite a good formula, with their 'happy evening' (it lasts alot longer than just an hour) serving 2 pint jugs of Cocktails for £9. They have added two for one deals on the very substansial meals to the formula, and then to top it off the restaurant changes into a nightclub at eleven, but, unfortunately, I really cant tell you about the night club side of things because we didn't stay that long.
What I can tell you about is the restaurant.
Apparantly there is an unwritten rule that all Mexican restaurants must be painted orange, and they have abided by this rule. What it does do is lend a relaxed atmosphere to the place, combined with the paper table clothes, one feels almost compelled to use ones hands to eat. Then again, when you've ordered the ribs (and really you should!!) or the chicken wings, or even a fajita it's difficult to avoid using your hands. The food in general, was not stunning, but certainly not bad, however I must mention again how those ribs stood out for me... They were brilliant! Another thing I noticed was that the helpings were generous, and one could easily get a satisfying meal for two people and a bottle of wine for under £25.
Our waitress was friendly if not over attentive. Having said that, I do feel obliged to mention how quickly the food arrived after ordering.
The music was actually good, unobtrusive and fitting with the style. I reckon they could have easily played some Santana but that would be fussy.
This very centrally located restaurant is not suggested as somewhere to take your girlfriend to propose. What I will gladly suggest is that you take a group of mates down, buy a few jugs of cocktails, eat some good (if slightly messy) food and have youselves as much fun as you like!!
