Designed by the celebrated architect Mario Pani in 1959 but never used as a theatre for more than six decades, the Teatro Varsovia is one of the more unusual stages in Mexico City. Pani conceived the room on the ground floor of the Varsovia building, at Varsovia 9 in the Zona Rosa, as an amenity for residents and neighbours of the Colonia Juarez, but it served only as a hall for union assemblies and never functioned as a working playhouse.
