Begun in 1873 as a Nottingham Temperance Hall and designed by the local architect Watson Fothergill, the Albert Hall stands on North Circus Street close to the city centre. The original building opened in 1876 and became the largest concert hall in Nottingham and a major venue for political rallies, though it suffered repeated financial crises.
