Baltimore wanted what Boston had, so it built a copy of Amsterdam's greatest concert hall and opened it with the Boston Symphony. The Lyric at 140 West Mount Royal Avenue opened as the Music Hall on October 31, 1894, modeled on the Concertgebouw, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and soprano Nellie Melba on the inaugural bill.
