Allen County War Memorial Coliseum

The idea for the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum began in 1944, when the Fort Wayne Junior Chamber of Commerce proposed building a field house dedicated as a war memorial. Existing buildings in the area were too small for the larger community functions -- sports events, concerts, and civic gatherings -- that the city needed. When the doors of the magnificent Emboyd Theatre opened on May 14, 1928, Fort Wayne gained both a movie palace and a vaudeville house that would become northern Indiana's showplace for nearly a century.
