Reopened in April 2022 as The Camden, the venue at 61-65 Crowndale Road is a multi-purpose event space and club a short walk behind the landmark Koko theatre in Camden Town, north London. Set in a modern steel-and-glass building, it operates as a bar and late-night club while also taking bookings for corporate functions, weddings, private parties and promoted club nights, with a capacity of around 350. The site has carried several identities over the years. It traded for a long period as the Purple Turtle, reopened in 2016 as a club, bar and restaurant called the Crowndale, which closed at the start of 2018, and then returned under the present name in 2022. Across those incarnations it has remained primarily a live-events and club venue that can also run as a straightforward bar. The flexible room, fitted with a PA system and a standing stage, hosts live music and DJ-led nights running into the early hours, and its interior can be rearranged for conferences and product launches as readily as for parties. The deep-blue-and-gold decor and cocktail offer pitch it at both a going-out crowd and private hire. Crowndale Road sits just off Camden High Street, in one of London's densest nightlife districts and beside the Grade II-listed Koko, putting it among a heavy concentration of bars, clubs and music venues. For promoters the draw is an adaptable central room; for visitors, a late bar and club in the middle of Camden's night scene. The neighbouring Koko, formerly the Camden Palace and before that the Music Machine, is one of London's best-known mid-sized music venues, and The Camden trades partly on the steady flow of audiences drawn to that corner of Camden Town. The earlier Purple Turtle was a long-running alternative and rock bar on the site, giving the address a continuous history as a drinking and music spot stretching back two decades. Today the room is available for private events and promoted parties on Sundays, with its regular club and live-music nights filling the rest of the week.
