At the heart of the Cheshire town of Alsager for more than fifty years, Alsager Civic is a community and events centre on Lawton Road that has recently been completely refurbished. The building serves as a versatile venue for private, commercial and community events, and is also where Alsager Town Council meets. Its Main Hall is a large space with a capacity of around 300 in a theatre layout, fitted with a sprung dance floor, a stage with modern sound and lighting systems, a stocked and staffed bar and a full kitchen. Smaller rooms such as the Lawton Suite cater for gatherings of up to fifty, and conference facilities can handle several hundred delegates. The centre hosts a broad programme: live music and tribute acts, comedy and bingo nights, themed parties, regular cinema screenings, an indoor market and a lunch club, alongside weddings, baby showers and private celebrations. Daytime use includes dance, fitness and community classes. It has long doubled as a theatre and concert venue, and is the performance home of Alsager Community Theatre, an amateur drama group founded in 1973. The building has hosted everything from boxing and sequence dancing to ABBA tribute nights, reflecting its role as a flexible all-purpose hall. Centrally located in the town, the Civic has been a focus of community life since opening around 1971 and continues to balance commercial events with grassroots activities. For Alsager it functions as the main public events space, supporting local groups, businesses and celebrations throughout the year. The recent refurbishment modernised the building's facilities while preserving its role as the town's principal public hall, and its calendar mixes commercial entertainment with the activities of local clubs and societies. As the meeting place of the town council and the home of the local amateur theatre group, it sits at the centre of civic and cultural life in a town that has few other large indoor venues.
