A 2,500-capacity nightclub taking over the former Pryzm site on Woodhouse Lane, Mint XL is the flagship venue of the Mint brand, set within the Merrion Centre in the heart of Leeds. Reimagined from the ground up as a multi-room space, it was built to operate at a far larger scale than the brand's previous clubs while keeping their intimacy. Mint has been a fixture of Leeds club culture since the 1990s. The original Mint Club ran for two decades before closing in 2018 to make way for development, while Mint Warehouse opened in 2012 and Mint Festival continues at a site outside the city. Mint XL marks the brand's biggest project, bringing it directly into the city centre. The venue is fitted with a state-of-the-art Funktion-One Vero sound system and high-specification visuals, and enforces a strict no-phones policy aimed at keeping the focus on the music and the dance floor. Its multiple rooms are designed to host electronic-music programming, touring live acts and corporate events. An opening party announced for 25 September 2026 lined up a roster of underground and house DJs across all three rooms, signalling the venue's focus on electronic music. Its position within the Merrion Centre places it close to two universities and to key nightlife and transport links. Arriving at a time of wider pressure on UK nightlife, Mint XL represents a substantial reinvestment in a large city-centre venue and a statement of intent for Leeds as a music city. For the Mint team it is described as the next chapter in nearly two decades of building club nights and festivals in the city. The project has been watched closely within the UK club industry as a rare large-scale opening at a time when many venues have closed, and its promoters have framed it as a vote of confidence in Leeds as a dance-music city. By taking over a site previously run as a mainstream chain nightclub and rebuilding it around a high-end sound system and a music-focused, phone-free policy, it aims to draw a more dedicated electronic-music crowd.
