Bookshop by day and bar and music venue by night, Morocco Bound began in Bermondsey in 2019 and has since expanded with a second site in Wandsworth. The Wandsworth shop continues the model of its original: a curated bookshop, cafe and co-working space that transforms after dark into a bar hosting an eclectic programme of events. The original venue started life as a garage turned workspace just off Bermondsey Street and grew into a pillar of its local community, stocking a small but carefully chosen selection of titles with a focus on independent publishers. The Wandsworth branch, on Pilots Walk in the New Acres development, carries the same approach south-west of the river. By night the space serves drinks, including local beers, and plays host to live jazz and folk sessions, poetry open-mic nights, book clubs, writing workshops, comedy, quizzes and wine tastings. That blend of bookshop and grassroots events venue has earned the brand a reputation as one of South London's notable small spaces for live music and spoken word. The rooms are intimate and adaptable, with books and beer lining the walls on handcrafted shelving, and are available for private hire for parties, music nights and creative events. Ground-floor access and a kitchenette make the space flexible for a range of gatherings. By keeping a working bookshop at its core while opening up as a bar and venue in the evenings, Morocco Bound offers an unusual hybrid that doubles as a community hub. For Wandsworth it adds a small, independent cultural space to the area, mirroring the success of the Bermondsey original. The bookshop side keeps a deliberately tight, curated stock with an emphasis on independent and small-press titles, while the evening events programme turns the same room into a stage for spoken word and acoustic music. Expanding from Bermondsey to Wandsworth extended a model that treats a bookshop as a community gathering place, giving each neighbourhood a hybrid space that works as both shop and small cultural venue.
