The Grove is a multi-use cultural venue in the east end of Newcastle upon Tyne, where the Byker district meets the Ouseburn Valley. Housed in a large former industrial building on St Michael's Road, it describes itself first and foremost as a music venue, built around a 350-capacity music hall. Spread across two floors, the venue is far more than a single space. As well as its music hall it offers a bar with eighteen taps, a cocktail bar serving premium cocktails and mocktails, and dedicated event space, all within a converted industrial shell. The music hall is the heart of the operation, hosting live gigs, club nights and a varied programme of events, with a sound and stage setup suited to touring and local acts alike. Its mid-sized capacity gives performances an energetic, close-up feel. Outside, a large courtyard and roof terrace, complete with a giant screen, extend the venue into the open air and host markets, film screenings and social events. The kitchen keeps things casual, slinging pizza slices to drinkers and gig-goers throughout. Its location in Newcastle's creative east end, close to the bars, studios and venues of the Ouseburn, places it within one of the city's most vibrant cultural districts. The repurposing of a redundant industrial building reflects the wider regeneration of the area. By combining a genuine music venue with bars, an event space and outdoor areas, the Grove functions as a flexible cultural hub rather than a single-use room. That breadth, anchored by its music programming, has made it a notable addition to Newcastle's nightlife. The venue also hosts regular markets, screenings and community events, reflecting an ambition to serve the surrounding area as well as touring music fans. Its scale and variety have quickly established it as one of the most ambitious independent spaces to open in the city's east end in recent years.
