Spread over around 1.6 square kilometres in Khalifa City, the Al Forsan International Sports Resort is a large multi-sport leisure complex in Abu Dhabi, opened in 2010. The resort brings together a wide range of activities on a single site, from motorsport and water sports to shooting, equestrian pursuits and team games. Its motorsport centre is built around a 1.2-kilometre CIK-FIA approved karting circuit, designed to international standards and used for both casual driving and competition, with separate karts for children of different ages. On the water, the resort introduced the Middle East's first cable wakeboarding park, using an overhead cable system to pull riders around purpose-built beginner and pro lakes for wakeboarding, kneeboarding and waterskiing. Land-based options include indoor and outdoor paintball, shooting and archery, an equestrian centre, a polo field, football pitches and cycling and jogging tracks. The site also provides gyms, swimming pools and restaurants serving Italian and Japanese cuisine, along with ballroom and conference spaces for events. Strategically located near Abu Dhabi International Airport and the national exhibition centre, the resort was developed as part of the emirate's long-term tourism and leisure plans. Its breadth of activities under one roof has made it one of the more popular active-day-out destinations in the capital. The resort was developed as part of Abu Dhabi's wider push to broaden its leisure and sports tourism, and its cable park and karting circuit in particular have hosted competitive events alongside everyday recreation. Its ballrooms and landscaped grounds also make it a venue for weddings, corporate functions and conferences. With activities ranging from motorsport to water sports under single ownership, the complex is designed so that visitors can combine several very different experiences in one trip.
