Built inside the former Fountain Studios, the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre is a large, fully flexible performance venue in the Wembley Park district of north-west London. The site previously served as a television studio, best known as the long-time home of shows including The X Factor, before its conversion to a theatre. It opened in 2019 as part of the wider regeneration of Wembley Park around the national stadium and arena, bringing a major new stage to an area dominated by sport and live music. The conversion was carried out by the Troubadour theatre group on a meanwhile-use basis while longer-term plans for the site develop. The auditorium is designed to be reconfigured for each production, seating somewhere between roughly 1,000 and 2,000 depending on the layout. It can be set as a traditional proscenium house, in the round, or as a fully immersive space. That flexibility has allowed it to stage ambitious, large-scale productions that would not fit easily into conventional West End theatres. Its opening production was the National Theatre's War Horse, setting the tone for the work that has followed. The venue includes a bar, a restaurant and an open-air terrace, and a separate auditorium within the complex has been built to house a long-running production. The site functions as an entertainment destination as much as a single stage. Its location in Wembley Park places it beside the stadium, the arena and the London Designer Outlet, within a quarter that draws large crowds for events. Wembley Park Underground station is a short walk away. The scale and adaptability of the space have made it a magnet for spectacular, set-heavy shows and immersive stagings that trade on the room's size. It offers producers a blank canvas rare in London theatre. By repurposing a famous television studio into a flexible theatre, the venue has added an unusual, large-capacity stage to London's theatrical map, complementing the West End with something the centre cannot easily provide.
