Strung high among the trees of Taronga Zoo, Wild Ropes sends climbers swinging, balancing and zipping through the canopy with Sydney Harbour spread out below. It is an aerial adventure course set within one of the city's most famous zoos. The course is built into the treetops near the top entrance of the zoo, on the harbour-side slopes at Mosman. Climbers wear safety harnesses clipped to overhead lines as they make their way around. A series of linked courses offer suspension bridges, climbing walls, swinging logs and flying foxes, growing in height and difficulty. Routes are graded for different ages and levels of nerve. There are gentler courses for younger children and more daring ones for older and braver visitors, so families can take part together. Trained instructors brief and watch over climbers throughout. As they climb, visitors look out over the zoo's enclosures and across the water to the city skyline, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The setting among the trees and animals is part of the thrill. A full circuit can take from about three quarters of an hour to a couple of hours, depending on the courses chosen. It can be enjoyed on its own or added to a day at the zoo. Booking ahead is recommended, and climbers must meet certain height requirements for safety. The course is run as a separate attraction within the zoo grounds. It is located at Taronga Zoo, on Bradleys Head Road in Mosman, reached by a short ferry ride across the harbour from the city. All equipment is provided, and a safety briefing prepares climbers before they set out into the trees. The courses are designed so that climbers stay securely attached throughout. Beyond the thrill, the course offers an unusual way to enjoy the zoo's harbour-side setting, with the animals below and the city beyond. It has become a popular outing for groups, families and corporate days out.
