In my defence,
I was left unsupervised

Perth is the world's most isolated major city, sitting closer to Singapore than Sydney, a geographical quirk that has shaped a city with remarkable self-reliance, a distinct identity, and an extraordinary natural environment. With pristine Indian Ocean beaches on the doorstep, world-class wine country an hour south, and one of Australia's greatest urban parks at its centre, Perth is a city of outdoor pleasure, relaxed sophistication, and understated confidence. The city's social scene is anchored by its beach culture. Cottesloe Beach is the iconic gathering spot — a long white-sand crescent backed by a grassy foreshore where all of Perth seems to congregate on summer weekends. Scarborough, City Beach, and Trigg offer wilder surf conditions. Fremantle — just 30 minutes south — is the cultural and culinary soul of the metropolitan area, with its Victorian port architecture, the famous Fremantle Markets, a thriving craft beer scene, and a bohemian, multicultural character quite distinct from central Perth. Perth's dining scene has evolved dramatically. The Northbridge district, adjacent to the CBD, remains the entertainment hub — a dense cluster of restaurants covering Vietnamese, Japanese, Italian, Greek, and Modern Australian cuisine, alongside rooftop bars and live music venues. Leederville, Mount Lawley, and Victoria Park are the inner-suburban dining favourites. Fresh seafood — WA rock lobster, Shark Bay prawns, and Rottnest Island scallops — is outstanding. The Perth Cultural Centre houses the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, and the State Library. Kings Park — larger than Central Park in New York — sits on a ridge overlooking the city, offering botanical gardens, Indigenous heritage sites, and panoramic views. The Swan Valley wine region is just 30 minutes from the city; the Margaret River wine region, three hours south, is world-class. Rottnest Island — home to the quokka — is a 30-minute ferry ride away and one of Australia's most beloved day-trip destinations.
