Some 380 member organisations and around 1,100 professionals share desks, labs and meeting rooms at BLOXHUB, the Nordic hub for sustainable urbanisation headquartered in the BLOX building on Copenhagen's harbourfront. Founded on 3 June 2016 by the philanthropic association Realdania, the City of Copenhagen and the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, it is a non-profit member association built on the idea that global urbanisation and climate challenges can only be solved through partnerships across sectors. The membership is an ecosystem of companies, research institutions, organisations and municipalities working in architecture, design, construction and urban tech - names such as Gehl Architects, the C40 Cities network, the Danish Design Center and the Danish Architecture Center among them. Members rent desks or offices across roughly 9,000 square metres spread over the BLOX building at Bryghuspladsen 8 (entrance C, 3rd floor) and the historic Faestningens Materialgard across the square, with shared access to meeting rooms, labs, a members' lounge and a year-round programme of innovation projects, matchmaking and events. The setting is itself a statement: BLOX, designed by OMA, sits on the harbour between the Royal Library and Langebro bridge, ten minutes' walk from City Hall Square, and doubles as a national meeting place for architecture and sustainable urban development through exhibitions and public events. Member organisations have included engineering giant COWI, the Alexandra Institute, Kraks Fond and INDEX alongside the architects and city networks, and the hub's programmes run from innovation calls and international matchmaking to the "science forum" activities that pair companies with researchers. Members get access to the lounge, labs and meeting and conference facilities across both addresses, and the association's events calendar - talks, workshops, delegation visits - is a fixture of Copenhagen's built-environment scene, operating locally while partnering across Europe, North America and Asia.
