Oslo's first self-declared "entertainment bar" sits between City Hall and the Parliament on Tordenskiolds gate, and the name - Bread & Circus - is the whole concept: drinks plus a nightly show. Almost every evening at 19:00 something kicks off on one of the stages, and joining in is optional but encouraged. The weekly rhythm gives a flavour of the programming: nerdy themed quizzes on the likes of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings on Tuesdays, general and guessing-style trivia midweek, Friday afterwork drinks rolling into bingo nights led by Oslo's self-styled bingo queen Sunna and then dancing, and the signature "Hits for Quiz" on Saturdays - part concert, part pub quiz, part party, played with a live band. Many events are free entry, with tickets only for selected shows. The premises are built for it, with a capacity of around 500 spread over several distinct areas: a leafy courtyard with its own performance stage and a roof that opens in good weather, a balcony for people-watching and a cosier upper lounge. That flexibility makes the house a popular booking for private parties and company events alongside the open programme. Weekends run late, typically to around 03:00, and the venue is partially wheelchair accessible.
