Glad Sol is the Nordic region's only dedicated mosaic shop, run by artist and craftswoman Pia Skak Mortensen at Holmbladsgade 23 on Amager in Copenhagen. The name - "happy sun" - came to her in Nicaragua, where she trained; the idea is that mosaic glass catches, glints and laughs in sunlight. The high-ceilinged shop sells everything the craft needs - glass, stone, glue, tools and start kits - both over the counter and online, and doubles as a small gallery. Workshops and courses are a core part of the venture, from beginner sessions to commissioned decoration projects that often involve children and community groups. Opening hours are short and specific - typically Tuesday to Thursday 13:00-17:00, with extra openings by appointment - so checking the website or Facebook page before visiting is wise. The location is a five-minute walk from Amagerbro metro station, in the stretch of Holmbladsgade that has grown into one of Amager's livelier local shopping streets. Danish and Swedish mosaic enthusiasts treat the place as a pilgrimage stop, and its Mosaik-Freaks network gathers the community online between visits.
