Upstairs your friend sells vintage guitars; downstairs Nashville plays a basement in Sodermalm. Twang at Katarina Bangata 25, in the SoFo quarter, is Stockholm's only address built entirely around the twang: a combined cafe, bar and vintage guitar shop upstairs, and in the cellar the city's most intimate stage for country, americana, honky-tonk, rockabilly, pop and jazz - an operation whose roots go back over twenty years to a guitar shop on Skanegatan that, in the owners' words, simply ran away with itself. The ground floor works like a two-storey living room: coffee, cold beer and ginger beer served with a smile amid 50s-and-60s-flavoured decor, board games on the tables, guitars on the walls and a workshop behind the shop counter (weekday guitar hours 15:00-18:00). The basement stage books American and Swedish artists in a room small enough that the front row shares the performer's air - the Sthlm Honky Tonk club nights bring US acts through regularly, entry often lands around modest door prices or free, and the cellar hires out for release parties, gigs and birthdays. The country focus is deliberate mission work: the owners built the room where old honky-tonk spins digitally and on vinyl between live sets, and it has made Twang the sole pure country hang in Stockholm - though the calendar roams happily across americana and beyond. Cafe hours run 13:00-22:00 Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday, to 23:00 Friday and Saturday, closed Mondays. For visitors the summary is easy: the most relaxed small venue in SoFo, with the rare bonus that you can walk out owning a 1962 Telecaster. The international guest flow gives the cellar its stories - touring Texans and Canadians playing to sixty Swedes who know every word - and the shop's reputation among players makes the upstairs a destination in its own right: vintage instruments bought, sold and repaired by people who will happily talk tone woods until closing time.
