A pandemic-born art hub anchors a Sherman Heights corner. 1835 Creative Studios at 1835 Imperial Avenue, on the edge of downtown San Diego, packs 7,000 square feet of two-storey building with working studios, a gallery, private offices and retail units - workspace for clothing and streetwear brands, barbers, painters and the underground San Diego art scene, assembled by creative managers David Castillo and Riza Clave when the studios opened in 2021. The event side runs on two rooms. The Hub is a 1,300-square-foot open-concept gallery space with a coffee bar, mid-century furniture, lounge corners, a conference table for eight, built-in sound, a projector and capacity for about 50 - the natural setting for openings, workshops and networking sessions. The Yard is the showpiece: a 5,200-square-foot outdoor urban oasis with manicured turf, semi-private cabanas, a VIP lounge with gas fireplace, a custom-built DJ booth and programmable LED lighting, holding up to 200 for markets, live music, food pop-ups and private celebrations. An outdoor climbing wall adds the wildcard. Sunday markets, wellness meetups, art shows and even conference bookings rotate through, and the whole site rents as a full buyout for larger productions. The location - Imperial Avenue at the seam between Sherman Heights and East Village - puts the operation ten minutes from the Gaslamp while keeping neighbourhood roots that the founders guard deliberately: local artists first, community events woven between the commercial hires. The founders' rule of thumb keeps the balance honest: the commercial hires - corporate mixers, brand activations, even conference programming - subsidise the Sunday markets, gallery openings and wellness meetups that made the address matter to the neighbourhood in the first place. Barbers cut hair upstairs while a band soundchecks in the Yard, and that collision is the venue's whole personality.
