Little Five Points keeps its music hidden behind the shopfronts. Aisle 5 at 1123 Euclid Avenue NE, in Atlanta's most defiantly alternative district, is a 300-capacity music venue, bar and restaurant tucked behind a retail space that fronts the avenue - the side entrance marked by wall art that changes often enough to double as a local landmark in rotation. The room runs the straightforward small-club formula: stage at one end, standing room to the back bar, and a booking policy that keeps the calendar eclectic - touring indie, hip-hop, electronic, jam and experimental acts mixed with DJ nights and local showcases. The intimacy is the product; at this scale every show is a front-row show, and the venue has become one of the city's dependable first-headline rooms for acts on the way up. The neighbourhood does the rest of the evening's work. Little Five Points surrounds the venue with Atlanta's best pre-show economy - The Porter Beer Bar, the Wrecking Bar Brewpub and The Vortex all sit within walking distance - and the paid lot beside the building, metered spots on Euclid and the ten-minute walk from Inman Park MARTA station cover the arrivals. The house asks one favour of drivers, in bold on its own site: out of respect for the neighbours, do not park on Colquitt Avenue. The venue took over the space long held by The Five Spot, keeping Little Five Points' tradition of a proper stage hidden inside the district's retail row, and its production - a clean PA, proper monitors and sightlines unobstructed by columns - runs above the neighbourhood-bar grade its size suggests. Most shows are 18-plus or 21-plus general admission with tickets through the venue site, and the calendar's late-night DJ programming keeps the room alive after the touring act's bus pulls out. The name itself is grocery-aisle wordplay the staff decline to explain, which suits a venue whose whole appeal is what you find once you know where to look.
