San Jose's newest stage is a park the city already loved. Arena Green East, addressed at 340 Sharks Way beside the SAP Center, is the eastern lawn of Arena Green - the stretch of the Guadalupe River Park where the river meets Los Gatos Creek, ringed by the hockey arena, historic Diridon Station, the Hotel De Anza and Little Italy - now pressed into service as an open-air concert and events venue for downtown. The park format is straightforward festival staging: promoters build the stage, sound and fencing per event, and the lawn takes general-admission crowds for daytime and evening shows - the venue's 2026 arrival on the touring map came with house-music headliner Chris Lake's open-air party, billed as a brand-new venue for the city, with most events running 18-plus general admission through Eventbrite and the usual ticket channels. Between bookings the green reverts to its day job: tennis courts, a soccer mini-pitch, trails, picnics and the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy's community programming. The infrastructure case writes itself. Diridon Station - Caltrain, Amtrak, ACE and light rail - sits across the street, SAP Center's parking inventory surrounds the site, and Little Italy and the San Pedro Square food halls handle the before-and-after. As downtown San Jose's event economy grows around the arena district, the green gives the city something it lacked: a central outdoor floor for a few thousand people with a river running past the rail. The park's own layer of interest survives event days: the Muwekma Ohlone tribute installations, veterans' memorials and agricultural-history markers dotting the green give early arrivals something better than a parking lot to wander, and the river trail connects north toward the airport and south through downtown. As Google's long-planned Downtown West development reshapes the Diridon blocks, the green's role as the district's gathering floor is only set to grow.
