Greenwich Village's definitive jazz room finally crossed the country. Blue Note Los Angeles at 6372 Sunset Boulevard, at the corner of Ivar in the heart of Hollywood, brings the storied New York club's formula to the West Coast: an intimate supper-club layout, two shows a night, and a booking policy that mixes celebrated icons, rising stars and genre-defying collaborations reflecting jazz's ongoing evolution - early calendars have run from Robert Glasper and Samara Joy to Talib Kweli, exactly the jazz-to-hip-hop spectrum the brand's New York flagship pioneered. The room itself was designed by the acclaimed Legeard Studio to blend mid-century elegance with the raw energy of classic jazz - a deliberate contrast to the Sunset corridor's rock history all around it. The kitchen is a genuine draw rather than an afterthought: chef Asaf Maoz of the LA restaurant Carmel built a menu of bold, internationally inspired flavours, served through weekend brunches and nightly dinners, while the cocktail program works sophisticated riffs on jazz-era classics. Doors open at five for the seven o'clock show and again at nine for the late set. The location puts the club within the Hollywood entertainment district's revival - steps from the Cinerama Dome block and the studios along Sunset - and gives Los Angeles what it has intermittently lacked since the Central Avenue era: a purpose-built, internationally branded listening room where the world's best jazz musicians can count on a proper stage, a listening crowd and a full house. For a city with the deepest session-musician talent pool on earth, the address was overdue. The club's arrival slots into a broader Hollywood renaissance of listening rooms, but the Blue Note name changes the routing math: artists who play the New York flagship now have a matching West Coast anchor, and the brand's global network - Tokyo, Milan, Rio, Shanghai and beyond - treats the Sunset address as its American second city. Box office runs through Ticketweb with dinner reservations layered on top; the smart move is booking both.
