A satellite dish reading CONTACT marks the door of downtown Phoenix's self-described futurist nightclub. Club Contact at 747 West Van Buren Street, near Grand and 7th Avenues, opened on 4 April 2025 to a crowd that broke into spontaneous applause when owner Grace Perry walked past the queue - Perry's Gracie's Tax Bar down the street had spent years becoming one of downtown's most loved community bars, and the new club was pitched as its sister space "for live music, late nights and things we just can't do there." The building came with nightlife bones: it was previously the Thundercat Lounge, an eighties-themed club that closed in late 2024 after a short run. The room is a dark, low-slung dance club with a retro-styled floor, serious volume and an outdoor patio, programmed with an eclecticism that mirrors the city: DJ-driven EDM and house nights, Latin parties from jaripeo nights with live banda to reggaeton dance parties, LGBTQ pop and EDM events, drag shows, vendor markets, open-mic nights under the Launch Pad banner, jazz bookings and even Super Smash Bros tournaments. Food comes from Kristen Martinez's MB Foodhouse, and the crowd skews 21-plus with a modest cover after 9 pm. Community sits close to the surface. The club and Gracie's run recurring benefit nights - a July 2025 fundraiser for the Puente Human Rights Movement filled the room with DJs spinning music from Jamaica, Mexico, Vietnam and the Philippines - and staff describe the booking policy as an open platform for anyone with a night to build. Phoenix New Times called it a dance-party Goldilocks - more upbeat than a bar, less hectic than the big clubs - and a natural pregame stop before Stardust or Charlie's. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 pm to 2 am, Club Contact has quickly become the connective tissue of the Van Buren corridor's night-time scene.
