The company that throws Electric Daisy Carnival wanted a permanent home in San Diego, so it bought the Gaslamp Quarter's biggest club and rebuilt it. NOVA SD, at 454 Sixth Avenue, is Insomniac's three-storey, 22,000-square-foot flagship in downtown San Diego. The handover was a statement deal: Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella acquired the former OMNIA San Diego in early 2022 with Tao Group Hospitality as minority partner - his first business partnership with the Las Vegas hospitality giant - and reopened the room on 25 February 2022 with RL Grime, followed by deadmau5 the next night. The renovation prioritised the floor: the main room dancefloor was expanded and the production stack upgraded, aligning the venue with Insomniac's other clubs - Club Space in Miami, Echostage in Washington and Academy LA - as a music-first dance room rather than a bottle-service lounge. The building stacks three levels: a main floor holding around 700, a balcony level of 400, and a 400-person rooftop terrace above the Gaslamp streets, bringing total reception capacity to roughly 1,600. The calendar reads like a festival lineup in weekly installments: Tiesto, Illenium, Diplo, Jauz and Steve Aoki all played the opening months, and the booking cadence has kept national headliners rotating through every weekend since. Practical notes: the club is strictly 21-plus with physical ID required; the Gaslamp Quarter trolley station is a short walk and downtown garages fill fast on Saturdays, while the rooftop is the insider escape valve when the main floor peaks. The acquisition closed a circle for Insomniac: the company had produced festivals and one-off events around San Diego for nearly three decades - including a two-day, 20,000-plus attendance festival the previous November - before founder Pasquale Rotella finally gave the market a permanent home, his words, in the Gaslamp Quarter.
