The stage faces the skyline it borrowed for a backdrop. The Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre at 1000 NC Music Factory Boulevard opened in 2009 as the Uptown Amphitheatre, the outdoor crown of the AvidXchange Music Factory - the ARK Group's 52-million-dollar conversion of a former textile mill complex into Charlotte's music district. The 5,000-capacity layout splits 2,000 reserved seats against a 3,000-person sloped lawn, with garden boxes and VIP sections down front and clean sightlines to both the stage and the Uptown towers behind it. The opening season inherited the market the Palladium at Carowinds abandoned - the first show paired The Fray with Jack's Mannequin - and the calendar has since run the full mid-size touring spectrum: Benson Boone, The Kid LAROI, Sturgill Simpson, Weird Al and a heavy country rotation. The naming rights track the venue's corporate history - Road Runner Mobile, Time Warner Cable, Charlotte Metro Credit Union - before Skyla Credit Union took the gate from 2022, though locals still default to calling it the Uptown. The Music Factory complex packs the before-and-after around the bowl: the Fillmore Charlotte handles indoor shows across the courtyard, with the Comedy Zone, clubs, restaurants and 2,500 parking spaces sharing the campus in Fourth Ward. The April-to-October season makes it Uptown Charlotte's default summer stage - close enough to walk from the city core, big enough for national headliners, small enough that the lawn still feels like a neighbourhood picnic. The venue's pairing with the Fillmore next door gives promoters a rain-risk hedge and a year-round Charlotte play - outdoor April to October, indoor through winter - and valet parking, garden boxes and skyline-view VIP decks stretch the premium inventory well past what a 5,000-cap shed usually carries.
