The neon ghost of Crackers Comedy Club still marks the facade, but behind it Broad Ripple's longest-running comedy address has been reborn as a vinyl listening room and concert hall. Turntable opened in October 2024 at 6281 North College Avenue in Indianapolis, directly beside the Vogue Theatre. The operator is Forty5, the Indianapolis boutique production company that runs the Vogue, and the concept splits the space in two: a front bar modeled on a classic listening room, with restored audio equipment, cocktails and a curated record collection, and a rear concert hall purpose-built for live music. The room's history runs deep - Crackers operated here from 1999 to 2017 and hosted Jim Gaffigan, Marc Maron and Daniel Tosh on their way up - and the renovation honored it, keeping the riser configuration, enlarging the corner stage and preserving a brick column at stage right from the club's famous red-brick backdrop. The signature design piece is a light-up vinyl wall stacked with records - staff favorites alongside albums signed by artists who have played Turntable or the Vogue, a collection that grows with every booking - plus a ceiling fixture faced with more than twenty albums from Carly Simon to Peter Schilling. The programming leans toward discovery: emerging touring acts, local showcases and DJ nights aimed at an eighteen-and-up crowd, with a pit floor for standing fans and seating at the back of the hall. The pairing with the Vogue gives Forty5 a two-room ladder in a single block of Broad Ripple - an artist can debut in the intimate Turntable and graduate to the thousand-cap theater next door without leaving the neighborhood. For a strip that lost its comedy anchor in 2017, the revival returned live entertainment to the address in a form the neighborhood's record-store generation understands instinctively.
