A beautifully renovated 1894 church in Springfield's Forest Park neighbourhood, 52 Sumner is a performing arts venue operated by the nonprofit Springfield Performing Arts Ventures, Inc. The building at 52 Sumner Avenue was originally designed by architect William Van Alen, who later gained worldwide fame as the designer of New York City's Chrysler Building. After years as Faith United Church, the sanctuary underwent more than a year of renovations -- new sound system, professional lighting, refinished floors, freshly painted walls -- before opening to the public on December 7, 2023. SPAV is devoted to creating affordable and accessible arts programming for the Greater Springfield region. The calendar includes original live music, tribute and cover acts, theatrical productions by the Springfield Community Theater, symphony performances, and networking events. The venue sells tickets through Eventbrite, with VIP table reservations available via the organization's social media channels. A full concert PA and lighting rig are available with an in-house technician for outside bookings. The former sanctuary space retains the high ceilings and natural acoustics of its church origins, giving performances a distinctive resonance that newer purpose-built rooms often lack. Kitchen facilities are available for catered events, and the venue accepts private rentals for weddings, fundraisers, and corporate functions. Photo and video recording for personal use is permitted at most shows. The location is less than five minutes off Interstate 91 and sits on the corner of Fort Pleasant Street.
