Founded in 1995 with a deep respect for European brewing traditions, AleSmith Brewing Company has grown into one of the most decorated craft breweries in the world. The family-owned operation relocated in 2015 to a purpose-built facility at 9990 AleSmith Court in San Diego's Miramar district, two blocks west of its original location. The new brewery, dubbed AleSmith 2.0, features a state-of-the-art brew system capable of producing over 100,000 barrels per year and one of the largest tasting rooms in San Diego County. AleSmith specializes in handcrafted ales inspired by European classics and has been consistently ranked among the top ten breweries in the world on the consumer-driven ratings site RateBeer, sitting at number six out of more than 33,000 breweries worldwide. The brewery's portfolio includes bold, complex styles -- barrel-aged stouts, Belgian-influenced ales, IPAs, and seasonal releases -- that have earned national and international awards at competitions around the globe. The tasting room pours a rotating selection of draught and limited-release beers and is open to the public for drop-in visits. A private event space within the brewery accommodates corporate functions, weddings, and celebrations; enquiries are handled by the events manager at 619-308-6933. The general phone line is 858-549-9888. Miramar is home to one of the densest concentrations of craft breweries in San Diego, and AleSmith is among the district's anchor tenants. The surrounding area offers a self-guided brewery-hopping experience that draws craft-beer enthusiasts from across Southern California and beyond. AleSmith's community-minded ethos extends to regular charity events and collaborations with local organizations. The tasting room experience at AleSmith 2.0 is designed as a destination visit rather than a quick stop: the cavernous space features high ceilings, long communal tables, and views into the working brewhouse. Tours are available and walk visitors through the grain-to-glass process. The brewery's flagship beers include Speedway Stout, .394 Pale Ale (named after Tony Gwynn's career batting average), and Old Numbskull barleywine.
