The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York is the largest public tennis facility in the world and the home of the US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of each calendar year. The 46.5-acre complex contains 22 outdoor courts, three show courts with permanent seating, and an indoor training centre, accommodating both the highest level of professional tournament play and year-round public recreational use. The centrepiece is the 23,771-seat Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis-specific arena on earth, which received a retractable roof in 2016 at a cost of roughly million. Louis Armstrong Stadium, rebuilt in 2018 with a 14,053-seat capacity and its own retractable roof, serves as the second show court. The Grandstand, a 8,125-seat outdoor stadium, completes the trio of ticketed show courts. During the US Open, temporary courts and seating are added across the grounds to handle the tournament's 128-player singles draws. Named in honour of tennis champion and social justice pioneer Billie Jean King in 2006, the centre underwent a million strategic transformation plan beginning in 2013 that rebuilt Armstrong Stadium, added new player facilities, expanded food and retail offerings, and upgraded the grounds for both players and fans. Outside the two-week US Open window in late August and September, the facility operates as a public tennis centre managed by the USTA, with courts available for hourly rental by the general public. The complex is accessible via the 7 train to Mets-Willets Point station and the Long Island Rail Road. It sits adjacent to Citi Field and within Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, the site of both the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs. The US Open draws roughly 900,000 spectators over its two-week run, making it one of the highest-attended annual sporting events in the world. Qualifying rounds begin a week before the main draw, and grounds passes offer access to all outer courts.
