Situated at 1 Portage Avenue East on the banks of the Red River in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Blue Cross Park -- formerly Shaw Park -- is a 7,481-seat baseball stadium that serves as the home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association of Professional Baseball. The ballpark opened on 5 June 2012 as the centrepiece of a waterfront revitalisation project and replaced the ageing CanWest Global Park (now demolished). The stadium features natural grass, a covered grandstand behind home plate, open-air seating along the baselines, suite and club-level options, and a signature right-field party deck. Views from the upper concourse take in the Red River, the Esplanade Riel pedestrian bridge, and the Forks National Historic Site. The ballpark also hosts concerts, festivals, and community events outside the baseball season, taking advantage of its central downtown location and riverfront setting. The Goldeyes have been a fixture in Winnipeg's sports landscape since 1994, and the purpose-built stadium cemented the franchise's position as a summer entertainment anchor in the city. The naming rights transitioned to Blue Cross in recent years. Parking is available in nearby garages and surface lots, and the stadium is accessible by Winnipeg Transit.
