Lexington's long-anticipated gap in mid-size concert programming was filled with the opening of the CommonSpirit Health Stage at Gatton Park in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. The outdoor amphitheater accommodates audiences of up to 5,000 on the park's Great Lawn, a capacity larger than Cincinnati's PNC Pavilion and more than double Louisville's Iroquois Amphitheater. Oak View Group, which also oversees bookings at Rupp Arena and the Lexington Opera House, manages the concert programming. The stage and Great Lawn were designed for large-scale concerts, performances, and festivals, giving promoters and booking agencies a size-appropriate stop for touring artists who previously bypassed the Lexington market because the Opera House was too small and the arena was too large. The Beach Boys christened the venue with its first major concert, and Kansas with Jefferson Starship and Molly Hatchet followed later in the inaugural season. OVG projected at least 20 shows on the books for the venue's second full year. Gatton Park itself is a broader downtown green space that also includes a 1,000-capacity Recreation Lawn, Market Row for food trucks and vendor fairs, a 50-person indoor Community Room with audio-visual equipment, and The Perch, a 100-person event space offering panoramic park views. Rental information for all park spaces is available at gattonpark.org. Concert attendees are encouraged to park at the Central Bank Center lot and use the High Street pedestrian access. Tickets are scanned at the gate and can be purchased through Oak View Group's ticketing channels. OVG projected at least 20 shows for the venue's second full year, a significant increase from the limited inaugural slate that included the Beach Boys and Kansas with Jefferson Starship and Molly Hatchet. The 4,500-to-5,000-person sweet spot fills a niche that lets mid-level touring acts bypass the region no longer, making Lexington a regular stop on routes that previously jumped straight from Louisville to Cincinnati.
