Built on the site of the historic Roebling Wire Works, the factory that produced materials for the Brooklyn Bridge and other landmark structures, CURE Insurance Arena opened on October 6, 1999, as the Sovereign Bank Arena with a World Wrestling Federation event. The 53-million-dollar, 250,000-square-foot arena at 81 Hamilton Avenue in Trenton is owned by the Mercer County Improvement Authority and operated by Oak View Group. Seating capacity varies by event: up to 10,500 for concerts and family shows, 8,600 for basketball, and 7,605 for hockey. The facility includes 34 private luxury suites available for single-night rentals or seasonal ownership, plus more than 100,000 square feet of exhibit space for trade shows. Four on-site parking lots provide approximately 3,500 spaces. The arena has hosted over 3,000 events and drawn more than 8 million attendees since opening. Sold-out performances by Bruce Springsteen, Cher, Shania Twain, Elton John, Carrie Underwood, Justin Bieber, and GHOST sit alongside NCAA Division I Women's Basketball tournament rounds, championship boxing, and family entertainment from Disney On Ice and the Harlem Globetrotters. CURE Insurance Arena is also home to the ECHL's Trenton Ironhawks. The naming rights have changed twice: Sovereign Bank Arena from 1999 to 2009, Sun National Bank Center from 2009 to 2017, and CURE Insurance Arena from 2017 to present. The venue is served by the Hamilton Avenue station on NJ Transit's River Line. The box office number is 609-656-3224. The arena sits within walking distance of the Trenton Transit Center and is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and parking facilities that serve the Chambersburg neighbourhood. Oak View Group manages day-to-day operations, booking, and event production. Tickets and event information are available at cureinsurancearena.com.
