Named for Edward J. Robson, a 1954 Colorado College graduate who played three years of varsity hockey and later represented Team USA in 1955 before being selected for the 1956 U.S. Olympic hockey team, the Ed Robson Arena opened on September 18, 2021, as a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art facility on the Colorado College campus. The 52-million-dollar, three-storey arena gives the CC Tigers men's ice hockey team an on-campus home for the first time since the programme started in 1938, ending more than 80 years of playing at off-campus rinks including the Broadmoor World Arena. The arena accommodates approximately 3,407 attendees for hockey and can host ice-based and multiple other sports. Designed by JLG Architects with sustainability at its core, the building features low-emissivity windows, perforated metal sunscreens, a highly reflective roof, and solar-panel-ready roof and parking garage. Located on the block bordered by Nevada Avenue, Cache La Poudre, Tejon, and Dale Streets, the arena is two blocks east of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. As part of the City for Champions initiative, Ed Robson Arena joins Weidner Field, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, the Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center, and the USAFA Gateway Visitor Center as one of five venues designed to attract visitors to the Pikes Peak region.
