Opened in 2022 as downtown Halifax's largest cultural hub, the Light House Arts Centre is a multi-level, multidisciplinary facility at 1800 Argyle Street, directly across from City Hall in the heart of Nova Scotia's capital. The building houses a large Performance Hall, a fully equipped media production studio, multiple flex spaces for rehearsals and workshops, and a lobby with concession and bar service. The Performance Hall is the main draw, equipped with a full concert-style PA and lighting package. Its flexible configuration supports three layouts: fully seated at 684 (346 retractable cushioned telescopic seats plus up to 338 floor seats), a hybrid seated-and-standing arrangement for 840, and general-admission standing capacity of 1,150. A mobile stage and drape system can be pushed forward for intimate shows or set back to open the full floor. An accessible side-stage area contains dressing rooms and green rooms, while a box office operates across from the lobby. Programming spans live concerts, comedy, dance performances and competitions, theatrical productions, film screenings, conferences, corporate events, and community gatherings. The venue has hosted the Annual African Nova Scotian Music Association Awards Show and a range of touring Canadian and international acts across genres. The adjacent 3,374-square-foot lobby space includes merchandise areas, coat check from September to May, and a staffed bar and concessions operation. The broader facility includes a Media Production Centre built around a black-box studio surrounded by nearly 20,000 square feet of support space, providing turn-key technical infrastructure for content creation across media platforms. Multiple flex studios throughout the building accommodate workshops, rehearsals, photo shoots, meetings, and small presentations. Situated in the Mi'kma'ki traditional territory, the Light House Arts Centre has quickly become a focal point for Halifax's performing arts and creative communities.
