Oakes Garden Theatre is an open-air amphitheatre-style park at the foot of Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, Ontario, offering a dramatic terraced landscape overlooking the Horseshoe Falls. Designed in a Beaux-Arts style and opened in 1937, the gardens feature curved stone balustrades, ornamental plantings, a central promenade, and tiered seating areas that frame one of the most photographed views in the world. Originally developed on the site of the former Clifton Hotel, the garden theatre was conceived as part of the Niagara Parks Commission's effort to beautify and preserve public access to the falls. The terraced design creates a natural amphitheatre effect, making the space suitable for outdoor concerts, weddings, cultural events, and civic ceremonies. The rock garden and formal plantings are maintained year-round by the Niagara Parks horticultural team. Located at the intersection where Clifton Hill meets the Niagara Parkway, the garden theatre sits within walking distance of major tourist attractions including the Fallsview Casino, the Skylon Tower, and the Journey Behind the Falls experience. Admission to the gardens is free, and the site is accessible from the Niagara Parks public transit system. The views at sunset are particularly striking.
