Built by the citizens of El Paso County in 1982 and located at 190 South Cascade Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs, the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts has achieved international acclaim for its design and acoustical qualities. The 2,000-seat Great Hall features continental seating across orchestra, loge, mezzanine, and balcony levels with side box seats, hosting in excess of 200 performances annually including concerts, comedy, dance, theatre, and family shows. Originally conceived as the Pikes Peak region's first true symphony hall, the center is the home and primary venue of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. The American Theatre Guild presents national Broadway tours and professional touring productions each season. Notable past performers include Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Alice Cooper, and Earth, Wind and Fire. A secondary space, Studio Bee, provides a 50-by-68-foot black box theatre with its own lighting and sound system, seating approximately 250 in a soundproof design that permits simultaneous programming with the Great Hall. The proscenium stage has a maximum opening of 81 feet wide by 40 feet high, adjustable down to 34 by 16 feet, with a 52-foot working depth. The venue is owned by El Paso County and operated by The Broadmoor World Arena, a 501(c)(3) organization.
