Saturn is a live music venue and bar in Birmingham, Alabama's Avondale neighbourhood, located at 200 41st Street South. Opened on May 1, 2015, by musician and promoter Brian Teasley -- who previously founded the beloved Bottletree Cafe -- Saturn occupies the former Cory and Faulkner Hardware building and has a capacity of approximately 500 to 525 people. The venue has established itself as one of Birmingham's most important rooms for independent and alternative music. Saturn is distinguished by its "living venue" concept: an array of sensors and sound-producing devices designed by Teasley with engineer Daniel Farris and The Octopus Project from Austin, Texas, generates continuous ambient soundscapes throughout the space. The adjoining Satellite bar and coffee shop, housed in Moore's Hall, functions as a lobby and lounge in the evenings and a coffee shop during the day, with a loft above serving as a dressing area for touring musicians. Past performers include Soccer Mommy, Dinosaur Jr., Ty Segall, and numerous indie and alternative acts on the national touring circuit. In February 2023, Saturn was acquired by TVG Hospitality of London, England, the company behind Huntsville's 8,000-capacity Orion Amphitheater. Teasley joined TVG's Huntsville Venue Group as senior operations manager. The venue is operated under the umbrella of The Bowery Presents through its Atlanta-based Bowery South subsidiary. Saturn remains a cornerstone of Birmingham's Avondale entertainment district, which has transformed into one of the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods for craft breweries, independent restaurants, and cultural venues.
