Scotiabank Centre is the largest multipurpose arena in Atlantic Canada, located at 1800 Argyle Street in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. Originally opened on February 17, 1978, as the Halifax Metro Centre, the facility was rebranded in September 2014 under a naming rights agreement with Scotiabank. The arena was built into the ground to compensate for the steep elevation of the land it occupies, and spectators can see cars at street level outside while watching events inside. The arena has a seating capacity of 10,595 for ice hockey and up to 10,600 for other event configurations. It is home to the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL, who have played there since 1994 and won the Memorial Cup in 2013, and the Halifax Thunderbirds of the National Lacrosse League. The venue features 47 skyboxes, premium seating lounges, executive suites, and is fully air-conditioned and accessible. Renovations in the mid to late 1990s added the skybox level, and a new scoreboard with SilverVision LED screens was installed in preparation for the 2003 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Halifax also hosted the World Juniors again in 2022. The arena serves as the host venue for the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, one of the largest annual indoor shows in the world. It has presented concerts by major international touring artists and has been ranked among the top 100 venues globally. Connected to the Downtown Halifax Link pedestrian system, the Scotiabank Centre anchors the city's entertainment district and draws visitors from across the Maritime provinces.
