Thalia Mara Hall is the 2,040-seat Municipal Auditorium of the City of Jackson, located at 225 East Pascagoula Street in the downtown arts and cultural district of Jackson, Mississippi. Built in 1968 as the Jackson Municipal Auditorium, the venue was renamed in 1994 by the Jackson City Council to honour Thalia Mara, a Chicago-born dancer, educator, author, and patron of the arts who was invited by the Jackson Ballet Guild in 1975 to develop a professional ballet company and school in Mississippi. In 1979, as part of her development plan, Mara secured the International Ballet Competition (IBC) for the City of Jackson. By an act of the United States Congress, Jackson was designated the official USA home of the IBC, which is held quadrennially at Thalia Mara Hall. The venue has served as the home of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and has hosted touring Broadway shows, concerts, opera, ballet, comedy, lectures, and community events for generations. After closing in August 2024 for extensive repairs and renovations, the hall officially reopened on January 13, 2026, under a new co-management partnership between Visit Jackson and the Jackson Convention Complex. Recent programming has included productions such as Les Miserables and Tyler Perry's Madea's Final Play, and performances by artists including Mavis Staples, Maxwell, and Kevin Gates.
