Occupying the former Puerto Banus bullring, Marbella Arena is a multipurpose entertainment venue on Avenida Pilar Calvo in Nueva Andalucia. The ring was originally built in 1965 and, after the decline of bullfighting on the coast, was reinvented as a covered events arena while keeping the recognisable form of the old plaza de toros. Its defining feature is a vast dome -- about 37 metres wide and 18 metres tall, billed as the largest of its kind in Europe -- which covers roughly 1,100 square metres and turns the open ring into an all-weather hall. The space holds in the region of 6,000 people and is configured flexibly for very different events: concerts, theatre and musicals, comedy, sport (it has staged European boxing), corporate functions and galas. Acts ranging from Spanish artists such as Nina Pastori and Loquillo to tribute and orchestral shows have appeared since its modern relaunch. Sitting just a few minutes from Puerto Banus and its marina, the arena is one of the largest indoor event spaces on the Costa del Sol and runs a year-round programme managed in partnership with external promoters.
