On Bell Street in Glasgow's Merchant City, Blackfriars is a traditional pub best known for two things: a frequently changing range of cask ales and a basement that doubles as a live music and comedy venue. The main bar pours Scottish and guest ales from breweries such as Harviestoun and Stewart, alongside a wide choice of bottled and craft beers. Downstairs, the low-ceilinged cellar hosts live bands, club sessions and stand-up, giving the pub a reputation as a music venue as much as a drinking spot. The kitchen serves straightforward pub food, and in recent years pizza has been offered in partnership with a local kitchen. The pub sits in the heart of Merchant City, the part of central Glasgow known for its converted warehouses, bars and restaurants, a short walk from High Street and Argyle Street stations.
