The Abbey is a historic pub and grassroots live-music venue on Guildhall Close, within Manchester Science Park in the Hulme area of the city. Standing on the site since the 1890s, the building was most recently known as The Old Abbey Taphouse and has long been valued as a community local with an inclusive atmosphere and a much-loved beer garden. Following an extensive restoration, the venue reopened as The Abbey under a team of experienced independent operators with the guiding idea of "Old Pub, New Music". Original features such as the 19th-century bar and restored parquet flooring have been retained, while a dedicated live-music room has been added at the rear to champion emerging and grassroots artists. Alongside the gig programme, The Abbey serves affordable pub food and a curated beer selection, and offers two outdoor beer gardens. Its location on the Oxford Road Corridor, close to Manchester Academy and the universities, makes it both a destination in its own right and a natural stop for pre- and post-gig drinks.
