Concorde 2 is a 600-capacity live-music venue and nightclub at 286A Madeira Drive on Brighton's seafront, in the Kemptown area. It occupies a Victorian building dating from around 1890, originally built as a shelter hall and cafe within the Madeira Terrace complex, which over the decades served as a tea room, a 1960s bikers' cafe, and a 1970s amusement arcade. The venue opened as Concorde 2 on New Year's Eve 1999, with a performance by the Brighton-based DJ Fatboy Slim, whose Big Beat Boutique nights had earlier been associated with the site. Its position a mile from the city centre, distinctive stained-glass windows, original wood flooring, and the adjacent historic Madeira lift give it a strong seaside character. Over its history it has hosted a wide range of touring artists, with Foo Fighters and Amy Winehouse among the acts to have played the room; Dave Grohl reputedly described it on stage as "the perfect venue". It remains one of Brighton's best-known independent music venues, programming live gigs and club nights throughout the year.
