The Ferret is a grassroots live-music venue at 55 Fylde Road in Preston, Lancashire, situated opposite the University of Central Lancashire students' union and close to the city centre and railway station. Opening its doors in 2006, it has become the most established gig venue in the city, with a standing capacity of around 200 and an 18-and-over door policy. The venue runs a busy weekly calendar of gigs spanning many genres, and over the years has hosted artists on the rise including Ed Sheeran, Alt-J, Idles, Frightened Rabbit, and We Were Promised Jetpacks, among many others. Its compact size and dedicated stage, lighting, and sound make it a favoured stop for touring bands and a key platform for emerging local talent. Its long-term future was secured when the building came into community ownership through the charity Music Venue Properties, and plans have since been approved to expand the venue across multiple floors with additional performance and rehearsal spaces. The Ferret remains a cornerstone of Preston's grassroots music scene.
