Whelan's is a pub and live-music venue at 25 Wexford Street in central Dublin, Ireland, widely regarded as one of the city's most iconic music venues. Established as a music venue in 1989 within a building whose origins trace back to the 17th century, it has become a foundation stone in Dublin's development as an international music city. The venue operates several distinct spaces across the building, including a main room with a standing capacity of around 450, a more intimate upstairs venue holding about 120, and a smaller room known as The Parlour. With live music running seven nights a week, Whelan's has hosted countless international and Irish artists over the decades, among them Jeff Buckley, Arctic Monkeys, and Damien Rice - the latter famously inspiring a teenage Ed Sheeran in the crowd. As much a beloved traditional pub as a stage, Whelan's combines its bar and restaurant with a programme that extends beyond rock and folk to comedy, club nights, and private events. Its Wexford Street location places it at the heart of Dublin's nightlife district, and the venue can host larger private functions across its combined floors.
