On the central Las Vegas Strip at the Paris Las Vegas resort, the Eiffel Tower Experience is the spectacular half-scale recreation of the original Eiffel Tower in Paris that has become one of the most iconic landmarks of the Strip. The 540-foot tower opened in September 1999 alongside the new Paris Las Vegas resort and was constructed from the original 1889 engineering drawings by Gustave Eiffel, with the steel structure faithfully recreating the wrought-iron lattice silhouette of the original at almost exactly half its scale. Several practical adaptations distinguish the Las Vegas tower from its Parisian counterpart. The tower's steel framing was modified to use modern earthquake-resistant connections, and the foundation was deeply piled to compensate for the soft alluvial soils of the Las Vegas Valley. The four legs of the tower descend through the casino floor of the Paris Las Vegas resort, with three legs anchored within the resort's interior and the fourth (most photographed) leg extending out over the resort's front entrance. The defining feature of the visitor experience is the journey to the 460-foot observation level. A high-speed glass-enclosed elevator carries visitors directly up one of the four legs to the observation deck, where a 360-degree open-air viewing platform provides commanding views of the central Strip in every direction. The view is among the best in the city. Looking west across the Strip, visitors take in the celebrated Bellagio fountain shows immediately opposite (the dancing fountain shows are extraordinarily photogenic from this elevation, particularly during the evening when the dramatic lighting transforms the show), the Caesars Palace complex, the Wynn and Encore complex and the Mirage volcano. Looking east, the Las Vegas Convention Center, the LINQ High Roller observation wheel and the new Sphere are clearly visible. The observation deck is open until late evening, with the lighting on the tower itself synchronised to celebrate special events including New Year's Eve, Independence Day and the Major League Baseball post-season. A small cafe at the Strip-level base of the tower offers refreshments and souvenirs. Tickets are sold by timed entry, with discounted online pricing and combination passes covering several Caesars Entertainment attractions available.
