Hidden away in a converted Victorian textile mill on Mary Street in Cheetham Hill, just north of Manchester city centre, Hidden is one of the city's best-known underground nightclubs. It emerged in 2013, around the time the Warehouse Project was coming to dominate Manchester's nightlife, promising culture, community and togetherness under one roof. The club has since become an epicentre for forward-thinking electronic music, housed in a building whose raw industrial character is central to its appeal. The venue occupies part of the former Downtex Mill, a site that once formed part of the vast network of cotton mills that earned Manchester the nickname Cottonopolis. Rather than disguising this heritage, Hidden embraces it, leaving exposed breezeblocks, steel and unfinished walls on show, while graffiti across its walkways references LGBTQI+ rights and local sayings. The result is a gritty, DIY atmosphere reminiscent of the city's legendary warehouse parties. The club is spread across four distinct spaces that give each night its own character. The Den is a dark, graffiti-covered basement focused on underground sounds; the Blue Room is a larger, brighter space with a more commercial feel; the Courtyard is an open-air area used for day sessions and neon-lit parties; and the Hangar is a versatile room that hosts everything from club nights to exhibitions and live performances. A serious sound system runs throughout. Musically, Hidden leans towards house and techno but also serves as a hub for drum and bass, garage and bassline, hosting respected promoters and party brands across all its rooms. With a capacity in the hundreds and a calendar running from Thursday to Sunday, it has welcomed a wide range of local and international DJs and recurring nights, building a loyal following among the city's clubbers. More than just a place to dance, Hidden has also functioned as a creative hub, with low-cost studios for local artists on its upper floors. That blend of nightlife and grassroots support, combined with its committed, music-first ethos, has made it a treasured fixture of Manchester's independent club scene and a regular feature on the city's after-dark map.
