Overlooking the seafront opposite Brighton Pier, Patterns is a multi-purpose nightclub, bar and live music venue on Marine Parade in the Kemptown area. Opened in 2015 on the former site of an art deco hotel, it occupies a building steeped in musical heritage, having previously housed the well-remembered Escape Club and Ted Potters Music Bar. It has since become one of the city's top destinations for both underground club culture and intimate live shows. The venue is spread across multiple levels, each with its own purpose. The ground floor combines a stylish bar with a hand-built DJ booth and a custom sound system, set within a striking interior of monolithic mirrors, industrial concrete and vibrant green neon. Below, the Basement is designed purely for dancing and immersive gig experiences, fitted with a high-quality sound system to deliver the best possible audio for club nights and performances. A defining feature of Patterns is its south-facing seafront terrace, an elevated outdoor space with sea views, tropical potted palms and colourful furniture. Rated by national press as one of the coolest outdoor spots in the city, the terrace hosts free weekly parties during the summer months, with resident DJs providing the soundtrack to long afternoons in the sun, adding a distinctive daytime dimension to the venue's offer. Musically, the club has built a strong reputation for its programming, hosting respected names from the worlds of house, techno, drum and bass and more, including high-profile DJs and acts. As a live music venue it has welcomed rising and established artists, including appearances as part of the city's Great Escape festival, balancing its identity as a serious club with a credible track record for showcasing live talent. Part of a group that operates a number of well-loved venues, Patterns has firmly established itself within Brighton's vibrant nightlife. Its combination of a seafront terrace, characterful bar, dedicated basement club and varied music programme makes it a versatile destination, equally suited to a relaxed drink by the sea, a live gig or a full night of clubbing by the pier.
