The Bread Shed is an intimate live music and events venue tucked away off Oxford Road in Manchester, with its entrance discreetly located within the Flour and Flagon pub on Grosvenor Street. With a capacity of around 400 to 480, it has earned a reputation as one of the city's most characterful small venues, hosting gigs, club nights and comedy across a varied and eclectic programme. Part of the venue's charm lies in its hidden-gem quality. Visitors find their way in through the adjoining pub, just across from the Deaf Institute, before discovering the event space beyond. The relatively compact room creates an immediately intimate environment, allowing audiences to get up close to performers, while the floor opens up for communal dancing when the music calls for it. As a live music venue, the Bread Shed is especially associated with rock, metal, punk and hardcore, regularly hosting touring bands working within those genres alongside a wide range of other styles. Its stage has welcomed an array of acts, and its dedicated, scene-savvy crowd has helped establish it as a reliable home for guitar-driven and underground music in Manchester. The venue is equally at home with electronic music and club nights, often teaming up with respected local promoters to put on exciting underground acts and DJ sets. This flexibility extends to comedy shows, themed nights and other events, making the most of a space that can shift comfortably between seated performances, standing gigs and late-night dancing depending on the occasion. By combining an intimate setting, a genuinely diverse events programme and a hidden-away location with real personality, the Bread Shed has carved out a distinctive niche in Manchester's busy live scene. Its blend of gigs, club nights and comedy, paired with the cosy charm of its setting, makes it a special destination for those seeking music and entertainment off the beaten track.
